At the beginning of the 20th century, British geographer and Oxford University professor Halford Mackinder presented the concept of the Heartland at the Royal Geographical Society.
In Mackinder’s understanding, the Heartland (or “The Geographical Pivot of History”) is a vast part of Eurasia, located in present-day Kazakhstan, Russia, and the countries of Central Asia, which plays a crucial role in shaping global affairs and geopolitical processes.
In today’s world, it is hard to overestimate the importance of this region, which serves as a bridge between Europe and Asia and possesses enormous economic potential.
